Bueño, Exemplary Town of Asturias Award Winner.

Bueño, Exemplary Town of Asturias Award Winner.

Last Saturday 27th, the Princes of Asturias have visited Bueño, the Exemplary Town of Asturias Award Winner. This award shall be conferred on the town, village, population Centre, scenic area or group of people in the Principality of Asturias that has stood out in a notable way in “defending and conserving its natural or environmental setting, it’s historical, cultural or artistic heritage, or in the carrying out of outstanding communal works or other such displays of solidarity”. During the morning trip the Princes observed the traditional architecture, taking special attention to the “hórreos” (Asturian typical granaries), and several roads reforms done by the neighbors themselves. Bueño has only 150 neighbors, good people with great cultural backgrounds, they organize an annual Jazz Festival beside other typical festivities. Javier Fernández, President of the Principality and José Ramón García Saiz Mayor of La Ribera de Arriba were accompanying the Royal couple during the Trip. It must be very difficult to choose an award winner among several candidates each year; Asturias has lots of villages that also deserve to be considered with such a distinction.

  1. I’ve visited northern Spain a few times and loved it, especially Asturias. Good luck with promoting the area. People should be told more about the northern provinces and how different they are from the Costas. I enjoyed your article.
