The stone cottage is a classic mini-landmark in the Asturian landscapes. These charming houses located in unequal places, like the “Picos de Europa National Park”, are the perfect investment for retirement, holidays or even to start a nice living.

The Picos de Europa, “The Rocky Mountains of Spain” are located within Asturias, Cantabria and Castilla León Autonomies (like the States in America).

Life used to be very hard for ancient Asturians who lived here. Today, local regulations have kept the architectural style of these houses intact, always taking in mind the modern conveniences to live pleasantly.

Whether if these cottages are located in a small village or a town, getting there involves an hour or two at the most from a close city, Oviedo, Cangas de Onís, Llanes, Gijón (Asturias), León, Riaño, (Castilla León) or Santander and Torrelavega (in Cantabria).

  1. Picos are truly beautiful, I went there for summer holiday and fell in love with the whole area, and Cabrales is my favourite cheese! Thank you for sharing.

  2. Vikas Yadav

    Excellent places…

  3. Picos de Europa is a beautiful place! I was some summers there, in the village Soto de Valdeón, in the part of León. There are amazing views! Regards.

    • Actually, this house is located in Picos de Europa, in the Leon side. As you say, it is a beautiful place, I never get tired of it,,,,,
      Thank you for comming by,

  4. I notice one significant difference to Norway! I don’t think the authorities ever would allow a house to be erected that close to a main road! If you visit the higher places in Norway (above 2700 ft) there wouldn’t be houses closer to the road than at least 30 ft and mostly twice as far. This has to do with traffic safety, removing snow, vibrations and traffic noise etc,, but you do certsainly have a wonderful nature up there!

    • Yes, you are very right. This particular house and the close road towards it was build more than a hundred years ago, I don’t think there was any constructions codes by that time. However, I admit that today the Norwegian architectural regulations are by far more strict and rigid than the ones we have down here, and it shows. You Norwegians really have a lot of respect for the environment and your cultural heritage, that is something we are trying to follow. Thank you for coming by!!

  5. Beautiful photographs! Thanks for visiting my blog.

  6. What a beautiful place! It must be easy to find wonderful things to say about it. You are lucky to live in this part of the world.

    • Hello, I was actually writing a comment in your post when I’ve got your message. Sometimes I find it difficult to get the adequate words to describe a beautiful landscape or a magnificent landmark, that’s why I prefer to show the pictures and let the viewers have their own opinion about it. I’ve been living here for seven years and I’ve never lost the sense of landscape appreciation, it’s really a great place to live in.
      Thank you for coming by.
